Non-Hazardous Waste Removal, Debris Clearing and Remediation

Here in Louisiana, Stan’s Airboat and Marsh Excavator Service is best known for pipeline reclamation, marsh excavation, and trenching. However, new customers (and even some existing clients) aren’t aware that we also specialize in non-hazardous waste removal, debris clearing, and remediation.

Let’s look at these services and what they involve.

Non-hazardous/Residual Waste in Louisiana Swamp

Non-Hazardous Waste Removal

Non-hazardous waste is waste that does not meet the EPA’s definition of hazardous waste, but even though we aren’t dealing with dangerous contaminants and toxic pollutants, these removal jobs are usually time-critical. Additionally, our government and commercial clients need them performed in specific ways, according to particular regulations (depending on what the materials are).

Non-hazardous/residual waste examples include:

  • Non-Friable Asbestos-Containing Material
  • Oil/Water Solutions
  • Petroleum Contaminated Soil
  • RCRA Empty Drums/Containers
  • Soil/Rock from Well Drilling
  • Waste Oil

Of course, hazardous waste must be disposed of in compliance with governmental regulations. But The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) also designates non-hazardous materials that can cause air and water pollution if they aren’t removed and disposed of in specific manners. Non-hazardous waste often can’t just go into a dumpster or sewer. These materials may not typically have a direct, negative impact on human health or the environment, but we don’t take any chances.

Our best advice for you is this: Work with a partner that has a solid compliance record. In the end, you are responsible for your non-hazardous waste even after it has left your property. This is where expertise and experience come in. If you dispose of hazardous waste in a landfill because it was mislabeled as non-hazardous, the legal and financial liability for your business could be tremendous.

If you are not sure about the classification of the waste you are removing, Stan’s can help you develop an economical and code-compliant disposal strategy. Responsible waste removal means eliminating any waste management liabilities your business may have.

The team at Stan’s Airboat & Marsh Excavator Service is here to help you manage your regulated nonhazardous materials in a way that is safe, compliant, and low-cost. Contact us now, and we’ll help you with a plan to remove waste properly.

Note: For more information on the regulations set by the RCRA, you can visit the EPA’s website here. The EPA’s Guide for Industrial Waste Management will also help you navigate the applicable rules.

Debris Removal

Stan’s also specializes in debris removal. Following a major storm, for example, we provide contractor support to agencies like the EPA’s Emergency and Rapid Response Services to conduct time-critical removals and rapid remedial actions. Stan’s track-mounted excavators are perfect for fast emergency response and long-term, multi-phase projects. For example, we can remove debris to a landfill or recycling center. After clearing the debris, we can assist with rebuilding damaged levees.

Marsh buggies, like the ones we use at Stan’s, are excellent at removing debris because they’re able to get to areas other vehicles can’t. Our hydraulic excavators are modified for swamp conditions and outfitted with amphibious pontoon undercarriages. We also equip them with storm clean-up attachments such as brush grapples, backhoes, dozer blades, mowers, and whatever else is needed for the task at hand.

Wetlands Remediation

Today’s oil and gas companies must adhere to regulations that protect our wetlands, and Stan’s helps them do it. Building levees and digging canals continue to be a big part of coastal land management and remediation. Our projects include dredging and related wetlands excavation when waterways are too shallow or inaccessible for conventional heavy equipment.

When a pipeline is decommissioned or a well is abandoned, we can work to restore the natural drainage patterns and encourage the growth of vegetation to support the ecosystem as it existed before.

Or where excavation has resulted in sediment particles suspended in the water (endangering the plants, fish, and wildlife that live there), we can work with large hydraulic suction dredges to pump silt. We can also build levee systems to contain the removed sediment, then assemble pipe systems to carry the waste materials away for removal and disposal.

Our coastal remediation business has grown over the years, as has our proven track record of success working with federal, state, and local guidelines (including OSHA). Our ability to handle wetworks has been our strength. Companies responsible for wetlands remediation know that not having to drain the job site means they can avoid building temporary roads, drainage structures, or levee systems. This saves time and money; it also means recovery and reclamation don’t take as long.

From wetlands reclamation and remediation to removal of storm debris or non-hazardous materials, Stan’s mobilizes experienced and knowledgeable personnel with company-owned equipment that’s built for the job. Our employees know government handling and disposal regulations, and they receive ongoing training to maintain credentials current with industry practices and requirements.

This means attending events like the CLEAN GULF Conference & Exhibition, which brings together businesses responsible for response operations to come up with new solutions for materials spills and storm response efforts. Get in touch with us today to see how we can help your business.
